My foot pain started around 20 years ago. As the pain got worse, I became more and more limited in what I could do, I wanted to go for long walks with my husband but I was unable to because the pain was so severe. Over the years I had various insoles and supports but nothing seemed to work. I was told that to correct my foot I would require major surgery and that there was no guarantee of a successful outcome. However, with the pain getting worse I started to consider putting my name down for surgery as I felt it was the only option. I heard from a retired surgeon about the Northern Ireland Foot and Ankle Clinic which is in Glengormley. I gave them a ring and booked an assessment. David Hallowell the Podiatrist said that while my foot had collapsed that he was confident he could help. He took casts of my feet and about 2 weeks later I was fitted for my insoles. I have been wearing my devices for only 2 weeks now and already I am more comfortable, and my pain is greatly reduced. I am very happy that I contacted David and his team as they have been so helpful, and the insoles have been so beneficial.
20 years of foot pain comes to an end for Mary
Foot and Ankle Clinic – Thank you Mary for your testimonial. Mary’s foot has completely collapsed so the type of orthotic she required was quite specialised. This type of foot requires what we call a HMSA orthotic which gives very high level of correction but spreads the correction over a large surface area. I am delighted to have been able to save Mary from having to have surgical intervention.
