Treatments
Our aim is to improve the quality of life for all our patients, by improving mobility in those who are suffering lower limb pain or dysfunction of any kind. We specialize in the biomechanical musculoskeletal assessment and the use of in-shoe orthoses and braces to stabilize and optimise muscle and joint function in the lower limb.
MSK Podiatry
We specialize in non-surgical management of pain and dysfunction in the lower limb. The conditions we treat include – Generalised foot pain, heel pain, knee pain, ankle dysfunction, ankle and foot trauma, ankle and foot arthritic conditions, ankle instability, drop foot, post-surgical complications.
Orthoric Therapy
At the Northern Ireland Foot & Ankle Clinic all our devices are designed to optimise your foot and ankle function. Every device is hand made in our own inhouse laboratory. This guarantees that all our devices are made to the highest clinical and ethical standards.
Foot & Ankle Braces
At the Northern Ireland Foot & Ankle Clinic we have over 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of specialized braces. Each brace is individually tailored to optimise patient comfort and function. We are the only manufacturer of the unique ankle rocker brace which mimics normal ankle function for patients who have reduced ankle movement. This may be due to trauma, surgical fusion or ankle arthritis.
Musculoskeletal Assessments
An assessment includes a comprehensive examination of all aspects of a patient’s walking pattern, lifestyle, any history of trauma, underlying medical conditions, muscle function and joint range of motion to identify the underlying cause of the patient’s pain and dysfunction. This then directly relates to any treatment plan, orthotic or bracing therapy.
Rocker Therapy
The in-shoe rocker was originally designed by our team in 2012. Since then, it has been successfully used to treat over 500 patients, some of whom were contemplating below knee amputation. It works by replacing or mimicking the lost movement at the ankle joint. It is used in patients who have a limitation of ankle joint movement. This may be due to Arthritis, surgical fusion, trauma, or congenital joint limitation. It is available in an orthotic or in a full ankle brace
Footwear Modifications
Sometimes all that is required is a simple shoe modification to change how the foot functions. These can be wedges as seen here or heel raises for patients with severe leg length differences. Once the modification is made it can be coloured to match the mid-sole of the patient’s shoe and is virtually undetectable.
